Carthage

The house is nestled in a small garden tinged with multiple shades of green in contrast with a mineral environment shaped by the millennia-old traces of Roman urbanization. A little Eden clinging to the hills of Carthage in Tunisia, a stone's throw from the ancient theater.

To understand the geography of the place, you have to climb onto the roof terrace converted into a belvedere and discover in the distance the two horns of the Jebel Boukornine massif facing the Gulf of Tunis.

This house was designed as desired by the couple of owners whose specifications could be summed up in a few words: simplicity – brightness – large balconies – presence of wood.

It is structured on the basis of a rectangular plan of which all the parts are designed from a metric grid. This geometry is found in the composition of the facades surrounding the villa with large bay windows and continuous balconies upstairs. The combination of wood and white walls gives the whole thing a simple and warm look.

To protect itself from the heat and brightness of an intense sun very present in Tunisia, the underside of the roof extends generously well beyond the facades in order to create vast areas of shade on the periphery, extending thus as far as possible towards the outside the thermal comfort felt inside.

“The search for well-being” could be the key phrase that guided the design of this house. The quality of the interior design resulting from the judicious artistic choice of objects, paintings and furniture chosen by the owners and that of the recreated landscape universe, did the rest.
